JA Vocal Music Summer Showcase 2010
(Please read carefully as things have changed since the last showcase.)
Last Day to Sign-up/Audition: March 26, 2010
It's time to get ready for
our 2010 Summer Showcase! There are many elements of the show to consider.
Please see the descriptions of each element below and fill out the form
accordingly. All students are required to return the attached form even if you
choose not to participate. However, we do encourage every student to
participate in as much as they can. The more they participate, the more stage
time they will have.
Solo
Each private student has the
opportunity to sing a solo of their choice. 30 minute students can sing 1 solo
and 45 or 60 minute students can sing 2 solos. They can be any style but they
must be approved by your teacher. Soloist can wear any out fit they wish as
long as it is appropriate for a family show. The solos will be rehearsed during
each student's regular lesson time. There are a few required rehearsals outside
of the private lessons that they must also attend. Please see the schedule
below for dates and times. These rehearsals are labeled "Everyone." There is an
additional charge of $10 per rehearsal for soloists. That is a total of $40. If
the student is participating in a choir or a group number this fee is waved.
The last day to submit your final solo selections is April 9nd.
Senior Choir
The Senior Choir is for
advanced students (usually ages 13 and up). Children ages 11 and 12 will be
advised by their teacher as to which choir will best suit them. The Senior
Choir will perform a total of 4 choir songs. These songs may range from pop to
jazz to rock to classical and they will be in 3 or 4 part harmony. Senior Choir
members will be required to wear all black while performing the Senior Choir
songs. There will be 10 Senior Choir rehearsals. Please see the schedule below
for dates and times. There is a fee of $10 per rehearsal. The total cost is
$100. The Senior Choir will be directed by Jeanette Airen and rehearsal will be
held at the Lake Balboa location. If you are not an enrolled JA Vocal Music
student you must audition to participate in the choir. The last day to audition
is March 26th.
Junior Choir
The Junior Choir is for
beginning students (usually ages 7 to 10). Children ages 11 and 12 will be
advised by their teacher as to which choir will best suit them. They will
perform a total of 2 choir songs. These songs will be in the pop genre and they
will be in 2 part harmony. Junior Choir members will be required to wear white
shirts, black pants or skirt and black shoes while performing the Junior Choir
songs. There are 10 Junior Choir rehearsals. Please see the schedule below for
dates and times. There is a fee of $8 per rehearsal. The total cost is $80. The
Junior Choir will be directed by Tabitha Neatherlin and the rehearsals will be
held at the Newbury Park location. If you are not an enrolled JA Vocal Music
student you must audition to participate in the choir. The last day to audition
is March 26th.
Musical Theater Group
This is an extension to the
Senior Choir. This is for advanced singers that are a part of the Senior Choir
only. The Musical Theater Group will perform a total of 2 musical theater
numbers with full costumes and choreography. Each student will be responsible
for providing their own costumes. The rehearsals for this group will be a part
of the Senior Choir rehearsals. There is no additional charge for the Musical
Theater Group as it is an extension of the Senior Choir.
Group Numbers
Group numbers are small
groups of singers put together to perform as duets, trios and possibly quartets
or larger groups. Students will be put into groups according to age, skill
level and musical interest. Each group will perform 1 song which the teacher
has chosen and assigned to the group. There are 10 group rehearsals. Please see
the schedule below for dates and times. There is an additional fee of $10 per
rehearsal. The total cost is $100. If you are participating in one of the
choirs and a group song the rehearsals that are combined, the rehearsals marked "Everyone," will only be charged once. Therefore, the total cost of the Sr.
Choir and the group is $160 and the total cost for the Jr. Choir and the group
is $148.
Minnie Melodies
The Minnie Melodies class for
young singers (ages 4 to 7) will perform 2 songs. These songs will incorporate
simple hand and dance movements. The Minnie Melodies rehears during their
regular class time although there are a few required rehearsals outside of the
class that they must also attend. Please see the schedule below for dates and
times. These rehearsals are labeled "Everyone." There is an additional charge
of $5 per rehearsal. That is a total of $20. If the student is participating in
the Junior Choir this fee is waved.
Choose Not to Participate
Students may also choose not
to participate in the showcase, although, we highly recommend that everyone
participates. These showcases are designed to help our students grow in ways
that their regular lessons cannot assist them. The showcase offers an
opportunity for our students to work with professional musicians, rehearse and
perform with other singers and perform in front of a live audience. However, we
understand that singing may only be a hobby for some of our students and they
may not be interested in performing. If you choose not to participate in the
showcase you will not be responsible for attending any of the rehearsals and
you will not be charged any additional fees.
Please look over the
rehearsal schedule and make sure you can commit. If you have any conflicts, we
must know and ok them before you register for the showcase. We will do our best
to accommodate all conflicts and scheduling requests, however, it may not be
possible to accommodate everyone"s requests. If you have committed to
participating in the show and an emergency arises causing you to miss a
rehearsal you must call your teacher immediately to let her know of the
situation. If illness occurs, please call your teacher immediately and tell her
your symptoms. Your teacher will then decide if you should not come to the
rehearsal. Many times it is better to come to the rehearsal with a cold and
just watch, listen and take notes if you are unable to sing. This way you don"t
miss any valuable information. However, we will not allow you to attend a
rehearsal if you are severely sick or injured or if you are contagious.
Please confirm your
participation and inform us of any conflicts and time requests BEFORE March 27th.
Once you confirm, we do not accept any unexcused absences from the rehearsals.
Missing an unexcused rehearsal will result in dismissal from the show.

Fees Involved: (Please
make all checks payable to JA Vocal Music.)
All fees are
due when you turn in your participation form. If your participation form and
your payment are not submitted before March
27th, you will not be participating in the
show.
1. Rehearsal Fees : Please see the descriptions above for rehearsal costs.
There are no refunds of Rehearsal Fees for any reason.
2. Participation Fee : Every performer participating in the show is required
to pay the Participation Fee. This fee helps pay for each performer's materials
(such as sheet music and the rehearsal CDs), the rental of the theatre or venue
and the payment for the band that will accompany the singers. Students only
participating in solos or the Minnie Melodies are required to pay a fee of $45.
Students participating in more aspects of the show are required to pay a fee of
$60. This is because the students only singing solos or with the Minnie
Melodies will not be using the band as much as students that are participating
in more. They also will not need as many materials. There will be a band of
professional musicians that will be accompanying the singers for this show. The
musicians will do 2 rehearsals with the students and they will perform in the
show. There are no refunds of the Participation Fee for any reason.
3. Tickets : Presale tickets will be $10 each. They will go on sale
on June 5th and will stop being sold on June 18th. Tickets
sold at the door will be $13 each. Tickets can be ordered from the JA Vocal
Music website. Tickets purchased from the website will be held at the box
office and can be picked up one hour prior to the show. There are no refunds
for tickets but if you will not be using one or some of your tickets you may
sell them to another student that may need more tickets.
Other important information
Showcase DVDs : The entire showcase will be professionally video taped, edited and put on DVD for each student to purchase. Each DVD is $15 and there is no limit to the number of DVDs each student can purchase. You may place your orders for the DVDs at the showcase performance and payment will be due when you place your order. It will take approximately 30 days for the showcase footage to be edited and transferred onto DVD. You will be notified when the DVDs are ready to be picked up.
Photographing: All photography is welcome at the show as long as the photographers are not moving around the room. All pictures should be taken from your seats.
